Some of you are regularly checking this site to see what is happening, so I want everybody, and mainly my students who bought online video lessons, to know that I am not forgetting you and this site.
Work on a totally new site as begun, and it will take about 3 months before it goes online. I will update the news here regularly to tell you where I am at with the project. To explain quickly the reasons, here they are:
First, this site is on a server to which I have only a very limited access (no ftp), I can't count on maintenance and backups, so it's good as long as it works, but if it does not, there is not much I can do.
Second, Joomla has a brand new version, 1.5, and there is no easy upgrade path. Beside, I am now working as much and as often as I can in the .Net 2.0 Framework environnement, as I believe it's where our future, as Windows programmers, mostly is. And for Linux there is Mono, which is quietly growing and maturing. So, as I need to develop my own modules to deliver videos training in the most satisfactory way for my students, and want to rewamp deeply what I was using in Jooomla so far, I decided instead to use a CMS based on .Net, written in C#, Open Source and not too monstruous like DotNetNuke is to my taste, rather than program in PHP for the site, and C# or Clarion# for other projects. After some resarch, I found mojoPortal which match my requirements very well. As it is open source, it's an excellent opportunity to study a well thought and evoluted ASPX .Net application. The community is active and helpful, so I should be able to create the modules I need while using what exists, which is quite a bit and will save me tons of time! It works well, and if you look for a modern and flexible CMS, for your own needs or your clients', I encourage you to give mojoPortal a good look.
By the way, I know it goes without saying, but it might be better saying it: our modules to plug into mojoPortal will be written in Clarion#, and/or translated into Clarion#. Is not life interesting? A couple of years ago, I never imagined I would be able to write this, planning to use Clarion with a very modern and well know technology, that's great!
